Born in Washington, DC

Lives & works in Easton, Maryland

Laura Leigh Kapolchok was born in Washington, D.C. and has lived in the Mid-Atlantic all her life. She started out drawing and painting abstracts in watercolor as a young girl and then learned the art of jewelry making using silver wire, beads and crystals and sold a large variety of handmade jewelry in shops and shows in Washington, DC, Silver Spring, and Ocean Pines, Maryland.

After relocating to Easton, Maryland seventeen years ago to live in a vibrant art community, she started out frequently selling her handmade jewelry to a few boutiques in Easton, Maryland and St. Michaels, Maryland. As time went on, she decided to change to other art mediums such as collage, after joining the Collage group at the Academy Art Museum and then she moved ahead to pastel and oil painting while taking classes at the Academy Art Museum. She currently is mentoring with Nancy Tankersley at Nancy’s Studio and School, as she continues to paint in oils.

She enjoys painting landscapes, flowers and still life’s and loves color.  She is a studio painter and sells her work at local art shows.

Her collage work almost always tells a story. Many of them are large, and some have short poems written for them as well. She also likes to combine small crystals, wire and sometimes pastel into her collage work. Imagination is a key element in all her work.

She is a member of St. Michels Art League and Working Artist Forum and for many years has shown her work at the Labor Day Show in St. Michaels, MD, and The Waterfowl Show in Easton, Maryland and many past Academy of Art Museum Member Shows. She has also shown her work at the Church Alley Gallery in Easton, Maryland, Quiet Waters Park in Annapolis, Maryland, the Easton Studio and School Holiday Shows, the Oxford Fine Arts Online Show, the Artists for Justice Show in Easton, MD, the 2020 Collaborative Painting to help raise money for people in the Easton Maryland area most affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, the 2020 Portraits of Black Lives Lost, Dorchester Center for the Arts in Cambridge, MD. She also won the Susan Stewart award for best collage “Angel of Fortitude” at the 2014 Academy of Art Museum Member Exhibition.
